Fictitious Site Launch

For this assignment I was tasked with creating a website for my fictitious client, Reel Deal Tacos.

I created the site based off a proposal I created where I demonstrated the platform, site structure, and content goals for the client that directly spoke to their stated needs.

Unfortunately, due to illness and time constraints I was not able to meet all the provisions outlined in my proposal. Everything outlined in the proposal would take me several days to create and test. Due to a high fever, the amount of time I was able to physically work on the project required me to restrict which items were live at launch.

While I don’t believe that anything in my proposal was unrealistic, I do admit that it is a time intensive launch plan for any single individual to attempt in a short turnaround timeframe.

Outside of being ill for several days, the most challenging thing for me was organizing the existing content to determine what I would need to create in order to deliver against my plan. Additionally, while I am used to working with self-host WordPress environments, I found working in the free version very limiting. Much of the hand coded items I created were simply discarded by the platform. I was unaware that would be an issue. It forced me to completely rethink my content plan for the site.

If I had more time, I would spend it on deepening the keyword richness of the site. I would get more blog posts up on the site, and create META descriptions levering the brands core keywords to help the sites overall SEO ranking.

Content Management Systems (CMS)

The purpose of this exercise is to explore the power and functionality of content management systems. For the fictitious company Reel Deal Tacos I have chosen WordPress as the CMS tool that will be used to build the company’s website.

I chose this platform as I have previous experience using the CMS. I have built several blogs, portfolio websites, and personal brand sites for various clients using the WordPress CMS. It is my preferred CMS simply because it is highly scalable, extremely reliable, and in the case of self-hosted uses, free to use.

The theme I chose prominently features photos – which I believe will be key in promoting a food truck brand – as well as short and long-form web writing. It will allow me to display press releases. blog posts, new menu item announcements. and truck location photos and videos in an aesthetically pleasing way for the audience.

I have tried several CMS’s and I do not recommend Wix as I do not find it a platform to work with easily if you are an intermediate or expert level web designer. The platform is quite limiting and is not as scalable as platforms like WordPress or Joomla.
